Engineered European Oak floors use a species Oak found in Europe, and has a similar construction to engineered timber floorboards, consisting of a top layer (Lamella) of real European Oak varying in thickness from 2-6mm.
The thicker this lamella is, the more times you can sand, stain or re-finish your floors in years to come if you wish.
Some boards are fumed or smoked to give a darker colour throughout, others are treated with a surface stain or reactive stain to penetrate further into the lamella. Various washes like limewash or whitewash can be used for a very modern feel.
Then there are many techniques to scrape the surface (some done by hand so no two boards are the same) to create a more rustic look, and different levels of protective coating to give a different sheen to your floor.
Finally a choice of edge styles are available from micro bevel to V groove to flat joins. Thicknesses range from 12mm up to 21mm, and board widths in anything up to a massive 300mm!
